Marc D. Garfinkle

Marc Garfinkle was born in Newark, NJ, and grew up in Linden. He was graduated from Marietta College in Ohio, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He earned his J.D. at Hastings College of Law (Univ. of Cal.) in San Francisco, where he began his career as a trial lawyer in 1978.

He has been a solo practitioner for virtually his entire career - his practice emphasizing plaintiff's personal injury litigation and criminal defense. A frequent lecturer on legal topics, Mr. Garfinkle speaks regularly to audiences on subjects such as gangs, legal ethics, and the juvenile justice system. He has been a panelist for the N.J. Bar Association's Institute for Continuing Legal Education on the subject of Juvenile Justice (I.C.L.E. 2006).

A former private investigator and professional lecturer, Mr. Garfinkle is a past Chair of the N.J. Supreme Court Attorney Ethics Committee for District VB. He is currently Public Defender for the Township of Livingston.

In addition to practicing law, Mr. Garfinkle has written the popular "Hip-Pocket Guide to Testifying in Court," and offers seminars and workshops for improving the credibility of people who testify. He also hosts a weekly Creole-language cable TV show and a weekly Creole-language radio program offering practical and legal advice to the French- and Creole- speaking communities in the New York metro area.
